What is Remarketing and how does it work?

Posted on September 16, 2011 by under Google

What is remarketing?

Remarketing allows you to show adverts to users who have previously visited your website as they browse other websites.

How does it work?

Remarketing is simple. You tag pages of your website that fit into specific categories that you want to advertise. For instance you would tag pages with – “Far East holidays” or “European holidays” if you were a travel company.

You can then build a Google Adwords campaign to advertise these categories with highly targeted messages such as “25% off our European holidays”. Then using the Google Display Network you can advertise to people who have previously visited these parts of your website.

Why use it?

In short – conversions. You are communicating with a targeted message to people who have visited key pages on your website.

A little about Sam Garrity …

Sam spent nearly ten years working within national media advertising teams at the The Daily Mail, Express Newspapers and Clear Channel. This experience allowed him to witness first-hand the decline of print media and the movement of marketing spend away from traditional platforms. The unique accountability and return on investment that search engine optimisation provides led to him seeking a career in this ever developing sector and ultimately the founding of Elevate Local.
